Companies in Africa: National Basketball Association (The NBA)

Dear Folks, I take it like me you have been spellbound by the NBA finals that ended this week. I certainly wish I was in Miami on a day like Thursday to join in on all the festivities of their win. However, with a long sigh….. I am writing to you curtsy of my couch 🙂 The events of the past month got me thinking that I ought to share with you the little I know about The NBA’s presence in Africa.

BACKGROUND Though it seemed somewhat unbelievable to me (for this is yet another tidbit of information you never find out until you physically “live” in Africa”, The NBA has had an established presence in Africa for over a decade. In 2010, the organization decided to make official there presence in the motherland by opening up an NBA Africa office, located in Johannesburg, South Africa, and headed by Senegalese Amadou Gallo. For more information on the agenda of NBA Africa, please check out their website as follows: http://www.nba.com/africa/who_we_are.html

FIND A JOB WITH NBA AFRICA As always, my goal is to persuade whoever would listen about the positives of moving back to Africa. So to all my sports enthusiasts, young African professionals interested in sports development in Africa, etc. Do take time to checkout NBA Africa and a possible career with them. As their Africa office is more “Basketball Development”, this sounds like a perfect opportunity for an engaging career in African sports development as a whole.

NBA AFRICA CONTACT INFO Well of course I had to hook you’ll up 🙂 However, before I spill the beans, allow me to share briefly my experience with the NBA Africa executive that I had the pleasure of meeting. By way of introduction the Vice President of NBA Africa Operations is Earl Patton. A phenomenal guy I happened to bump into by chance in Johannesburg. It also happened that he actually was a client of ours at work. However, long story short, Earl reiterated the fact that as an African American, one of the best decisions he ever made was on deciding to relocate permanently to Africa. He is in love with the motherland and all its perks, and his enthusiasm about Africa is contagious. As such, if you are interested in pursuing a career, internship, etc with NBA Africa, it would be a good idea to reach out to the following NBA AFRICA contact:

Earl Patton Vice President NBA Africa Operations Email: EPatton@nba.com

(If this is any enticement at all – The NBA really pampers their employees in Africa. 100% relocation expense paid for, a heafty salary (6 figures…wink wink :), housing allowance, daily stipend, company card,etc…..phew! Makes me wish I was basketball inclined in anyway 🙂

As always, Good luck with everything Folks…………..Africa Rising! xoxoxo
