Company Presence in Africa – Thomas Reuters

ABOUT As one of the major media houses in the world, Thomas Reuters also has a vibrant media presence on the African continent. Established in locations such as Nairobi, Kenya, Lagos, Nigeria, Johannesburg, South Africa, Harare, Zimbabwe, Cairo, Egypt, and Casablanca, Morocco, Reuters provides news related material pertaining to the African continent in multiple areas.

Their main focus however covers news in the following domains:

· Finance

· Politics

· Intellectual Property

· Legal

· Science

The current Reuters Africa page, like many of its news counterparts have on display stories pertaining to:

· The current crisis in Mali

· The Algerian hostage situation

· News on the Kenya and Tanzania currencies; and

· The death of the Vice-President of Zimbabwe

Though I did not come across any current job openings for Reuters Africa locations, I did however find out that the company has an annual Reuters Fitzgerald Scholarship for African Journalists – whereby selected candidates are awarded post-graduate scholarships for Africans interested in Journalism.

FOR THE AFRICAN DIASPORA

My aim this year is to highlight companies which we otherwise would not guess have a presence in Africa. So whether or not the company has current job openings in their Africa offices, will no longer be my main focus. Instead, sharing the knowledge that these companies do have an Africa presence/offices in Africa (in case you have ever thought of working for them on the Continent), will be my main focus. Case and point, Thomas Reuters – who up until I saw their building, did not realize where established in Africa, let alone in several countries.

CAREERS: as mentioned above, I did not come across any current job openings in their Africa offices, but I presume those in the field of Journalism, Print Media, Advertising, etc…..should keep Thomas Reuters on their radar.

In any case, I hope the above information was helpful regarding another Company Presence in Africa. In the future, I will try to do a portrait on more popular media houses such as CNN, CNBC, BLOOMBERG ,etc…who also have a strong presence here.
