Sights, Sounds & Stories: Pilgrimage to Cairo, Egypt

One of the many advantages of living and working on this side of the world is the ability to travel be it for business or pleasure, all over the continent. Furthermore, companies operating in Africa have found it increasingly profitable to open up branches and subsidiaries in different regional hubs, so as to maximize their profit margins. In this context, African expatriates working on the continent can be assured the opportunity of venturing out to countries one only hears about in the history or geography books. Roughly two months ago, I had the opportunity of traveling to Cairo, Egypt. I have always wanted to some day visit the Great Pyramids of Giza, or travers the Red Sea , but never imagined it would happen so early in my stay. Though it was only a short three days, I enjoyed every minute of my unexpected and unplanned trip to the ancient city of Cairo, Egypt.

Downtown Cairo

Le Citadel museum

Site of the rocks used to build the pyramids

Entrance to the Corptic Christian section of old Cairo

The stunning cathedral of St. George located in old Cairo

The Banks of the River Nile…….one of the most celebrated rivers in the world

Rush hour traffic heading towards Giza…site of the pyramids

Timeless……..

The famous sphinx

Live and direct from one of the seven wonders of the world 🙂

And there is a KFC right next door to the pyramids…..smh

Also got to make my own perfume….at an incense store

An added treat……met a Libyan Revoluntionary fighter from Benghazi…aka the group that overthrew Ghadaffi at the hotel lobby (he’s pointing out his benghazi i.d in the pic)
